CHARGES DROPPED

“Prosecutor Rossouw elated as charges against her dropped” (May 3): The reporter, Devon Koen, then goes on to say that Vicky Rossouw was “let off the hook”. To my mind you can only be let off the hook if you have done some thing wrong. The phrase does not seem to apply in this case.

A DISTANCE TOO FAR?

Reporters of The Herald need to understand their geography before writing stories. On Thursday last week, the headline story (“Cop’s murder in court shocks colleagues”) clearly states that Sisulu Street is just a few streets from the Motherwell magistrate’s court. Having easily checked myself, I discover that the junction of Sisulu Street and Mandela Street, where the second incident happened, is at the other end of New Brighton, just across the tracks from Deal Party. The distance is actually 14km. With any stretch of the imagination, I would hardly call that a few streets away. Accuracy is what reporting is supposed to be all about.

BUILD YOUR OWN

My, Mr Gwede Mantashe, you rolled out electricity during 1994. Did you not know that you cannot give something if you don’t have it? You should have first built power stations, then you can roll out power. Instead of paying the Turkish Karpowership group millions, rather build power stations with that money.

CANDLE POWER

In 1890, Portland in the US went from candles and paraffin lamps to electrical power. In 2022, SA went from electricity to candles and paraffin lamps. The mind boggles. Obviously something is seriously amiss. What excuses can we expect from the ruling party?

SA NEEDS STRONG LEADERSHIP

In my view the ANC has serious problems in its ranks when lame duck ex-president Thabo Mbeki tries to use the NEC to settle personal scores with President Cyril Ramaphosa, and disgraced expresident Jacob Zuma feels sufficient support to demand the removal of chief justice Raymond Zondo. We desperately need strong leadership.

PAYING ON TIME

For 25 years l have paid my municipal account three days before the due date without fail. Can mayor Retief Odendaal please tell me why the hell l get a reminder every month to pay by the due date?

GRATEFUL TO SASSA WORKER

I would to say thank you to Mr Brown at Sassa for the efficient way in which he conducts his work and the way he assisted me to apply for a Sassa pension. He goes above and beyond his duty to help the elderly.

WORKING FOR WHAT?

Workers’ Day last week meant nothing to most workers. We are still discriminated against, underpaid, and on top of that many companies hire foreigners knowing they will accept less pay. Though we are working, our lives are stuck.
