STEEL BAND CONCERT
Nelson Mandela University’s department of music and performing arts presents three different steel bands showcasing an authentic steel pan experience coupled with a variety of sounds, genres and instrument media.
In addition to NMU’s steel band, the university is honoured to host the Graeme College steel band from Makhanda, directed by Sylvester Appollis. The Graeme College band was the first high school steel band in SA.
Another welcome addition is Missionvale’s Normoyle Primary School’s newly-established steel band, directed by Siya Xotyeni.
The concert is on May 24 at 1pm at the South Campus auditorium. Entrance is free.

BEGINNER BRIDGE LESSONS
Learn how to play bridge or perfect your skills at the Port Elizabeth Contract Bridge Club in Albany Road from Wednesday May 31 from 2pm to 5pm.
The cost is R360 which includes six weekly theoretical lessons followed by practical, supervised play, as well as an introduction to bridge by Paul Marston.
Tea and coffee will also be served.

BOOT SALE
The Forest Hill community will host a boot sale at Clover Crescent on the open ground at Elizabeth Donkin Hospital.
There will be a sale on May 14, and again on May 21, with a special flea market on May 27 at the Protea Children’s home to fundraise for a playground.

FOOD AND MUSIC FEST
There will be a food and music fest to raise funds for Protea House of Safety in Blackthorne Avenue in Forest Hill on May 27.
There will be food stalls, arts and crafts, and preloved goods. There will also be plenty of activities for the kids and a line-up of local musicians.
The event takes place from 12pm to 6pm and entrance is free.

U3A PE MEETINGS
These meetings are designed to be interesting and stimulating to pique the interest of retired folk and those who are at home during the day in something new and to keep minds active.
This month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday May 30 at the Newton Park Library Auditorium at 9.45am for 10am.
The speaker will be Alan Montgomery on the subject “The Settlers and the Koi San People”.

BROADWAY SHOW
The Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society brings back the Broadway Revue with a spectacular new show, Mind my Broadway. It will run from May 19 to May 27 at the Savoy Theatre in Adcockvale.
There will be a welcome return of the popular cabaret style seating at tables and patrons are welcome to bring along a picnic to enjoy during the show.
A cash bar and coffee bar will be available as well as card facilities.
Tickets range between R90 and R130. Alternatively, book a table of eight or more and pay R1,000.
Bookings can be made via Webtickets and at any Pick n Pay store.
