Pearson take honours in girls’ hockey derby

-

Pearson High School celebrated its 97th reunion this past weekend with derby matches against Kingswood College, often in difficult conditions.

Much of the sport was cancelled due to the wet weather, but the hockey fixtures did take place, along with the rugby matches.

On the hockey astro, the Pearson girls first team topped a dominant performance in the first half by picking up two goals.

However, Kingswood then put up a great defensive display and kept Pearson out for the rest of the game, with no addition to the score.

Pearson’s goals were scored by Isabelle Hofmeyr and Jorja Andrews.

Kingswood had a few players out because of injury, which influenced their tactical approach to the game.

The visitors showed some fire in the last chukka and gave it their all by creating some good opportunities in the Pearson circle, but they were just unable to find the net.

The first team rugby match kicked off just as the heavy rain started, which made it extremely slippery for both sides.

The boys all put in a great effort, but Kingswood managed to make better use of their opportunities in the end to run out 18-0 winners.

The results were:

Girls hockey: Pearson U14B won 8-0, Pearson U14A won 2-0, Pearson U16B won 4-0, Pearson U16A drew 2-2, Pearson 3rd won 1-0, Pearson 2nd won 1-0, Pearson 1st won 2-0.

Boys hockey: Pearson U14A won 2-0, Pearson U14B drew 1-1, Pearson U16B won 5-1, Pearson U16C won 3-0.

Rugby: Pearson U14A won 32-7, Pearson U14B won 44-0, Pearson U15A won 15-5, Pearson U15B won 67-0, Pearson U16A lost 0-12, Pearson 3rd won 19-17, Pearson 2nd won 26-15, Pearson 1st lost 0-18 .
