The latest eatery to join the list of establishments at the right hand point break capital of the world is already cooking up success, drawing a crowd of diners just weeks into its opening.

While serving up delectable delights, Pili Pili, nestled in Kabeljauws Road in Jeffreys Bay, also whipped up more than 60 new job opportunities.

Operations manager Dawie Diederiks said it was imperative for the restaurant to open before the festive season started.

“We were determined to give beach lovers a chance to enjoy a delicious meal and cool off with a couple of ice-cold drinks,” Diederiks said.

He said the restaurant, a branch of Pili Pili Holdings, which also oversees a restaurant in Sedgefield in the Garden Route under the same name, as well as holiday apartments, experienced significant success over the festive period.

“Offering a stunning beachfront view, wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood, and a glass of wine, guests can indulge in a genuinely laid-back and sophisticated experience, allowing them to unwind completely,” Diederiks said.

“In total, we have seating for 200 guests both indoors and outdoors.

“We offer a one-of-a-kind braai or potjiekos experience tailored for large groups, particularly for foreign tour groups exploring our fantastic town.”

He said the Pili Pili’s busiest times since opening on December 12 was for breakfast and lunch.

Diederiks said the inspiration behind opening the restaurant in Jeffreys Bay was the discovery of an enchanting new location that captured their hearts instantly.

“Observing the success of our Sedgefield branch, we decided it was time for a new addition to the family.

“Excitingly, we’re also in the process of building a convenience store scheduled to open early this year.

“Soon, OK Urban and Pili Pili Kabeljauws will evolve into a one-stop-shop, offering a complete experience for all your needs.”

He said his favourite dish on the menu was the thin-based, crispy wood-fired oven pizzas.

“The Pili Pili pizza — it’ sa definite must-try. Pair it with our homemade Pili Pili relish for an extra burst of flavour. “And guess what? “Soon, the iconic Pili Pili chicken, our signature dish, will be making its debut in J-Bay.”

He said the name of the restaurant originated from the Swahili word “Pili Pili”, which translates to “Pepper Pepper”.

“This name is a nod to the African Birds Eye Chilli, also known as The African Devil or Red Devil chillies, capturing the spicy essence that adds a kick to our culinary creations.”

He said the restaurant had already generated 65 job opportunities for the local community.

“This diverse range of positions includes roles such as waiters, runners, bartenders, baristas, kitchen staff and management,” he added.
