Excellent run as Pearson come through unbeaten

The Pearson first cricket team produced an excellent set of results as they ended the Sunrisers Grey Cricket Festival unbeaten at the weekend.

The Gqeberha team started the festival on a high note on Thursday by beating King Edward School (KES) on first innings in their time format match.

Captain Esa Gangat was superb in taking 3/29 and scoring 71 not out.

He was well supported by Cayden Wilson with 4/42 and Jude Septoo with 40 runs.

On day two Septoo and Esa Gangat were the stars of the day as they took on a Namibian

Invitation­al team. After a strong start of 99/1 by the Namibians, Septoo took control for the home team, taking 6/26 as the Namibian team crashed to 143 all out.

Esa Gangat controlled the Pearson innings as he scored a matchwinni­ng 81 off 120 balls.

A combined team effort on day three saw Pearson make it three in a row as they secured a 51-run win over Grey College in a 50-overs match.

For the third consecutiv­e day, Esa Gangat led the way with the bat as he scored 49 off 35 balls after Pearson found themselves in early trouble.

Cayden Wilson was the pick of the Pearson bowlers and picked up 3/25 in his 10 overs as Grey were dismissed for 143 in the 43rd over.

Pearson produced another classy performanc­e on the final day against Menlo Park as they finished the tournament unbeaten with a four-wicket win in a 30-overs match.

Cayden Wilson, who enjoyed an excellent tournament, was once again in fine form as he kept the Menlo Park batters quiet, taking 3/29 in his six overs to restrict the visitors to 137. He then hit a quickfire 49 of 43 balls to take his team over the line.
