Does SA really have the best constitution in the world? This claim is boastfully touted by most government ministers — whose very departments fall foul of its ordinances. This is a constitution that kills the rights of law-abiding citizens while it opens the flood gates for crime to thrive, and prepares a bed of comfort for criminals to survive and be sustained. Furthermore, it’ sa constitution that guarantees the human rights of even those who are guilty of the most heinous, violent and inhuman acts of cruelty. Is this the best SA can do, by constantly shooting herself in the foot?

COPS’ BEACHFRONT CRUISE

Where are the metro police? I saw a metro police vehicle with three officers inside on beachfront patrol turning at the Flat Rocks car park. A nice slow drive, but not once did they disembark and attempt a foot patrol

or check on anything such as the public consumption of alcohol. Must be the more modern way of policing.

QUOTAS KILLING CRICKET

Questions need to be asked why so many of SA’s top Test cricketers are retiring prematurely. The answer is quotas, it is killing sport. We must be the only country in the world with this asinine rule. How many players from this country play for other Test nations?

GRANDPA’S ANTICS

“Grandfather gets suspended sentence for perjury” (The Herald, January 8): The 83year-old was involved in stock theft, an extramarital affair, fathered an illegitimate daughter. If this is the sort of excitement one can look forward to at 83 ... bring it on.
