GIG GUIDE: Fun activities and music entertainm­ent galore

- ORGAN RECITAL

Start the year on a high note with an organ recital by internatio­nally-known Dutch concert organist Minne Veldman at the Feather Market Centre on Tuesday February 27 at 1pm.

Bring your friends along and convince them to join the Organ Society. Affiliatio­n forms will be available.

As a member of the Feather Market Organ Society you will receive free admission, while admission for non-members is R50 and R40 for pensioners. Pupils and students enter free.

There will be safe parking opposite the old Herald building, and CDs by Veldman, and Wonderful World by Erika

Bothma and Albert Troskie will be on sale.

MUSIC PRODUCTION

The Port Elizabeth Music Society presents Xandi van Dijk (viola), Kärt Ruubel (piano) and Heidri Faber (clarinet), on Wednesday March 27 at Nelson Mandela University’s south campus auditorium at 7pm.

Tickets are available at the door for non-members at a cost of R95 for adults, R80 for pensioners, R50 for students and R40 for scholars.

ORCHESTRA

Conducted by Kutlwano Masote, the NMU Symphony Orchestra, in collaborat­ion with the Eastern Cape Philharmon­ic Orchestra, performs music by Schubert, Verdi, Handel, Khumalo and Sibisi at the South Campus auditorium on February 29.

Enriching the orchestral forces will be the Gqeberha Community Choir, under the guidance of celebrated baritone Njabulo Mthimkhulu, and soloists from the department of music and performing arts vocal studio — Afika Gwam (tenor), Ntsikelelo Mali (baritone), Edward Mqubuli (bass), Luleka Mabaso (soprano) and Sinentlahl­a Ndala (soprano).

The Choral Extravagan­za will also feature a guest appearance of the NMU Brass Ensemble, directed by George Foster.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost between R50 and R80.

CHARITY WALK

The Great Strides for Cheshire 5km Walk kicks off from Cheshire Home in Summerstra­nd tomorrow at 7.30am.

The cost is R80 to enter online via www.zsports.co.za. Manual entries are also available from the office before the walk.

The charity shops will be open and there will be boerewors rolls, coffee and pancakes on sale.

TRACY CHAPMAN TRIBUTE Claire Venn, Russel Sneyd and

Andrew T Warneke will be performing music from their Tracy Chapman and 3’s a band show on February 25 at 2pm in the garden of one of Gqeberha’s historic homes in Walmer.

The music is from many different decades and genres, so it will appeal to a wide audience.

Bring a picnic basket, blankets, sun hats and sun block. Beverages will be for sale.

Tickets, which may be purchased at the door, are R120 for adults and R60 for children under 12.
