Fashion meets humour in Brendon Roux show
Fashion guru and now Bay resident Brendon Roux will host his One night stand (up) comedy show at the Bridge Street Brewery on Sunday.
Roux, who is known for unapologetically wearing stilettos and dresses most women only dream of, promised to bring a unique style of comedy to entertain and enthral audiences at the weekend.
A flamboyant and confident Roux, who moved to Gqeberha from Cape Town about a year ago, said his latest show focused on his own life experiences, engaging in socio-relatable topics and a touch of raunchiness.
“I am an open book. I will touch on topics regarding love, my life, my observations of life in general as well as everything else,” Roux said.
“Like what I have learnt for instance in the past six months, it’s been ups and downs.
“Relocating here, my dating life and dealing with a whole new world of challenges while still being unapologetic.”
He said he was pleasantly surprised by the rapid growth in the comedy industry in Gqeberha within a year.
“I had my first show at the Savoy theatre in an open mic. I had a 15-minute slot there. Other than that there was nothing — there would be like a show once a month.
“Then I saw in the last three months how it just exploded here.
“I think slowly people started to see that working together makes a bigger effect instead of trying to conquer the world on your own.
“I also saw new comedians that were joining the comedy scene, doing half-hour shows, which was exciting to see for the growth of the comedy culture,” Roux said.
While Roux has continued to grow since taking on the comedy career full time in 2022, he said he still experienced discrimination on social media at times.
But he was content with who he was and would not change to conform to others’ standards or expectations.
“I am not afraid of competition because the comedy scene in Cape Town is even tougher.
“It is very difficult to get into the comedy clubs and my brand of comedy is different which gives me a unique place to sit at the comedy table. “I wear heels and a dress. “My life is only this short. “I can wear stilettos if they make me happy.
“I am willing to have a smaller audience that loves everything that I am about, [rather] than have crowds show up and I am standing in khaki shorts, boots and a T-shirt,” Roux said.
The show will start at 7pm and tickets are available online on Quicket.
