Funnyman boils up new jokes and fresh set of cooking skills
From hiding out in his house during the Covid-19 pandemic while attempting to homeschool his children, and failing dismally, comedian Chris Forrest is back on the road to do what he loves most — making people laugh.
And he is ready to bring the laughter to the Garden Route.
The comedian, with a career in comedy spanning more than 20 years, will first perform at The Music Kitchen in Gqeberha on March 20, before heading to Blend Country Restaurant & Pub in Knysna on March 23 at 7.30pm, and again at Studio 42 in Sedgefield at 7pm on March 24.
“I am someone who loves making people laugh. If I can improve your day from sh*t to good, I’m happy,” he said.
Though he spent the pandemic in isolation at his home in Johannesburg, he continued with online gigs.
“I discovered I am the worst teacher and stopped homeschooling my kids.”
But the opportunity to stay home and reflect also gave him the time to learn more about the things he enjoys.
The break from touring provided an opportunity to advance his cooking skills, which he said was a recipe mixed with passion and comedy.
He qualified, top of his class, as a chef at the HTA School of Culinary Art, and enjoys putting on comedic cooking shows.
“Both are all about creativity, but be careful eating food that tastes funny! I like to cook and eat — and the two go together beautifully. A brief glance at my BMI will help with this explanation,” he joked.
He promised that the “Chris Forrest is Rather Funny” comedy show had plenty of fresh and exciting material that would send people into fits of laughter.
He will also touch on his life during the pandemic.
He said his family would join him in the Garden Route and they were excited to explore the area.
“The Garden Route is an amazing part of the world, much better than the route through my garden, which is quite short and the only audience are my pets, whose humour is quite niche.”
He said it had been a while since he last toured and he was quite excited about it as it was “finally safe to travel without a mask or endure a ‘to-vax or not-to-vax’ debate, plus Joburg doesn’t have a beach”.
Tickets cost R150 through Quicket. The final performance will be at Hame in Hermanus on March 28.
