To celebrate a milestone successful career in the music industry, legendary rock band éVoid are back for a whistle-stop jive tour of their homeland SA, and will be rocking the Eastern Cape.

They were popular for hit songs such as Shadows, Taximan and I am a Fadget and the April tour was organised to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the gold-selling debut album that helped launch their ethnotronic sound.

The tour was organised by BreakOut Events.

BreakOut label manager Finn MacKinnon said éVoid would share a stage with English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark on their second tour of SA.

“The two original members, brothers Erik and Lucien Windrich, will be joined by veteran local musicians Peter Cohen [Bright Blue, Freshlyground] on drums, and Josh Hawks [Freshlyground] on bass,” MacKinnon said.

They are headed to Knysna on Saturday April 13 to perform at Big Top Rock at 7pm, and to Plettenberg Bay the next day to set the stage on fire at Moss and Maple Farmstall & Restaurant.

Before this, the band will perform in Durban at the Barnyard Theatre Suncoast on Wednesday April 10 and at Bay Collective in East London on the Thursday.

On the Friday they will be performing at The Music Kitchen in Gqeberha, ensuring everyone has a chance to catch this world renowned act.

They are set to perform in nine towns and cities during their SA tour, including in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Tickets for all the shows can be booked online at breakoutevents.co.za, with prices varying for each venue.

Mama Bear Events organiser Jeane Botes, of Knysna, said having éVoid perform in the town had always been a dream of hers.

“I have been trying to book éVoid for years now, so this is a dream come true for me.

“I used to live in Cape Town and saw them for the first time there,” she said.

The events organiser said that from the first time she saw them perform she had been hooked and became an instant fan.

“After moving to the UK they would at times come back to SA on tour to Joburg and Cape Town. I have been trying ever since to book them in the Garden Route,” said Botes.

The band will forever be remembered for their sold-out concert at

Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg in 1984.

They are also known for the colourful Ndebele and Zulu outfits and beadwork accessories they wear when performing, and are respected for their unique sound and ability to bring South Africans together through their music.

Ready to repeat history and do what they are best known for, the band is expected to perform for more than 600 people.

And this time they will not just be unifying people of all races with their sound, but hoping to create an atmosphere where the older and younger generations can come together to enjoy classic hits.
