A superb addition to Glenwood’s new dining destination

-

The Glenwood Restaurant 113 Brand Road Glenwood 031 201 0745 Hours: Tues to Sat: noon - 3pm, 6pm - 10pm, Sun: noon - 3pm BRAND Road in Glenwood is slowly becoming a dining out destination, with three reasonable suburban restaurants.

The latest is The Glenwood Restaurant, and it took a few weeks to get a booking.

Located in one of those marvellous old houses one finds in parts of Durban, it has a welcoming ambience. The garden area looks neat and there is the option of sitting outside, something you can do in Durban’s mild winters, in the evening.

Inside the rooms have been turned into dining areas. We joined friends who were already at the table. The restaurant is in the process of getting a liquor licence so we took along our own wine. Corkage was R20.

The menu has been kept simple, there are a few starters including vegetable antipasto for two (R80) or antipasti for two (R100), oysters (R20 each) and buckwheat blini with smoked salmon and crème fraiche (R60).

As for the mains, the pasta is home made and includes tagliatelle with cherry tomatoes, basil and cream (R55) and open herb ravioli with ratatouille, olives and beurre-blanc (R80), potato gnocchi with peas and bacon (R75) and porcini and oyster mushroom risotto (R75).

Other main options include Cape salmon (R110), poached chicken breast (R90) and grilled sirloin (R130).

The restaurant offers nine daily changing specials of three starters (one soup and two salads), three mains (all protein) and three puddings.

On the night there was cauliflower soup with anchovy and Parmesan palmiers (R35), peppers piedmontese with rocket (R50), Provolone and aubergine mezzaluna with tomato and herb salsa (R50), chicken and bacon terrine with toast and gherkins (R45),
