Body found off uShaka Beach

-

EARLY morning swimmers found the body of a man floating in the water off uShaka Beach yesterday.

It was believed to be that of a swimmer who was reported missing in the surf off the same beach last Sunday, according to Craig Lambinon, spokesman for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), which was party to recovering the body.

“The body has been taken into the care of police and the Forensic Pathology Services,” he said.

Lambinon said that it had been confirmed that last Sunday, an adult man reportedly went missing in the surf offshore of uShaka.

“Despite a search by lifeguards and Police Search and Rescue, no sign of the missing man was found.

“It is suspected that this may be the body of the man.

“Police are investigating that possibility and have opened an inquest docket.”

On Wednesday, the NSRI reported a similar find a nautical mile off Palm Beach, north of Port Edward.

“The body has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and an inquest docket has been opened by police,” the institute said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a spear fisherman was bitten by a shark, believed to be a great white, off Arniston in the Western Cape. He was taken to hospital in Cape Town in a serious but stable condition. – Staff Reporter
