Hotel attack

MOGADISHU: The number of people killed in an Islamist militant attack on a beachside hotel restaurant in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, has risen to 10, police said yesterday.

Members of al-Shabaab rammed an explosives-laden car into the popular Banadir Beach restaurant, before opening fire and taking hostages. Security forces ended the siege eight hours later.

At least 15 people were injured during the attack, while about 30 hostages were rescued. – dpa
