Police attacked

ANKARA: Kurdish militants yesterday attacked a police checkpoint in south-east Turkey with an explosives­laden truck, killing at least eight police officers and wounding 70 other people, Turkish officials said.

The attack struck the checkpoint some 50m from a main police station in the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibi­lity for the attack which was the latest in a string of bombings that have targeted police or military vehicles and installati­ons. – AP
