THE South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma) will hold a Cultural Parade and Carnival today at Gugu Dlamini Park in central Durban.

The parade is to fight against racism, paying tribute to the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Building to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act and commemorating 40 years of the class of 1976.

The carnival will also be celebrating the 90percent local music airplay ruling which was announced by the SABC in May.

SANDF, SAPS and community brass bands will be part of the parade.

SABC head Hlaudi Motsoeneng, as well as the founder of the Satma Awards, Dumisani Goba, and the newly appointed mayor of eThekwini, Zandile Gumede, will also take part in the parade.

Members of the public are welcome to join the parade which will start at 10am from Gugu Dlamini Park next to the Workshop Shopping Centre.
