- SITHEMBILE MKHWANAZI

DURBAN audiences will get the chance to judge the voice of one of The Voice judges when Bobby van Jaarsveld performs at Northlands Girls’ High School tonight.

The Afrikaans singer, who is preparing his English crossover album, is expected to sing songs from previous albums like Spieeltjie, ’n Vrou Wil Dit Hoor, Annatjie and Kyk Waar is Ons Nou.

Besides performing at South Africa’s biggest music festivals over the years, Van Jaarsveld has shown versatility as an allround entertainer and this year was a judge in the local singing competition The Voice SA.

He joined Karen Zoid, Lira and The Parlotones lead singer, Kahn. “I loved it! I miss the interaction with the other judges and talent. We are hoping for a second season,” he said.

Van Jaarsveld said he would be keen to collaborate with his fellow judges and finalists from The Voice, saying he thought it would be an honour to work with them.

“Everyone was nice at The Voice and I’m really close to Karen Zoid, she’s one of my closest friends and we have a lot of contact. But Kahn and Lira are also such great people and I would love to work with all of them,” he said.

The singer said he was currently busy recording an English album which will be released in February, but he wasn’t ready to reveal who would feature in the album.

This afternoon at Northlands Girls’ High School people are encouraged to bring along the family, a blanket and picnic baskets. Tickets are R250 for Golden Circle and R200. Chirldren under six are free. Gates open at 2pm and the concert will end at 6pm. Tickets via e-mail at bobbyconcertsales@nghs.co.za
