Witness saw brazen car theft

- TANYA WATERWORTH

A DURBAN businesswoman witnessed a brazen car theft in Glenwood this week – and the thieves were so casual she did not even realise the vehicle was being stolen.

While not wanting to be named because she is a witness to the crime, the woman said she had stopped in Devonshire Avenue to find a parking space on Monday morning.

“This older model car pulled out in front of me and parked a little ahead. I saw this guy get out, leaving the door open… He went across the road to talk to another guy who was close to a parked white double cab.

“Then a third guy came out of the double cab. He went and got into the older car and drove away. Then the other two got into the double cab and drove away.”

But it was only when she went into a nearby office where the car’s owner was in reception, that the full impact of what she had been watching hit home.

The owner of the stolen vehicle, Lynn Lister said she had parked her 17-year-old Ford Laser in the street. “There is normally a car guard there, but he wasn’t there on Monday. After I had finished my appointment, I went out and realised my car had been stolen.

“When I went back into the business, the witness was waiting in reception. When I said my car had been stolen, she asked if it was a blue car. The penny dropped and we realised she had witnessed the theft,” said Lister.
