The happiest 5km on the planet finds PMB
THE INTERNATIONALLY popular Color Run is set to return to Durban next week, but is going to Pietermaritzburg for the first time this weekend.
The Color Run, which is also known as “the happiest 5km on the planet” promises more colour and highlights this time.
This year there is a new venue and a new route in Durban, says the South African co-ordinator, Trevor Latimer. “The Durban run starts from the Durban North College and the PMB run starts at Epworth School, both routes giving us access to some of the cities’ most scenic views... and we can’t wait to introduce rainbows to every kilometre of it.”
The Color Run seeks to make the runner feel happy and healthy, but most importantly, colourful. Runners of all shapes and sizes happily go from wearing pristine white clothing to being covered in a kaleidoscope of colour. A different colour of powder fills the air and covers the participants at each kilometre mark, creating a spectrum of colour.
At the finish line the colour festival really begins as the air is filled with masses of vivid colours as participants take part in colour throwing, as well as enjoying DJs, local acts, food and drinks.
The run begins at 10am for both Pietermaritzburg and Durban with each batch starting three minutes apart.
Costs are R250 per runner, or R225 for groups of four or more with late entries at R300 each.
Runners will each receive a race pack which includes the official Rainbow Tour T-shirt, headband, bag of colour powder, temporary tattoos, and a race number. The route takes up to two hours to run or walk.
