Chill out to Matthew Mole’s vibe

-

MATTHEW Mole is treating Durbanites to a laid-back Sunday afternoon at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway tomorrow.

July saw the release of the platinum-selling artist’s anticipated second album, Run. The music video hit local number one on Apple Music and Apple Connect, while the single steadily held the top position on the iTunes ZA Pop Chart. The album debuted at number one on the iTunes Chart on release day.

Mole chose Run as the first single seeing as he saw the song to be a fair representation of the overall sound of the new album.

The album was written from early 2014 until late last year and was produced by Mole, with the help of Brad and Josh Klynsmith (of Gangs of Ballet). He drew inspiration for the album from things he has learnt from his family, loved ones and experiences over the last three years.

Signature Mole elements like his vocals, acoustic guitar and thematic songs are all on the new album.

Mole described the process of recording the album as a lot more experimental than his first album and parts of the album were recorded in different places inspired by his travels abroad.

Some of the guitar work was recorded on the Hampstead Heath in London to capture outdoor, natural elements, while some of the vocals were recorded in his room at home.

Raised in Fish Hoek, Cape Town, Mole was given his first guitar at the age of 11, and his dad taught him to play.

He has since learnt to play the ukulele, banjo, piano, organ, drums and many other instruments.

The theatre will open at 12.30pm and the show will start at 2pm. Tickets are R165.
