Kearsney, Maris Stella celebrate IEB scores
KEARSNEY College was celebrating this week when the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) results were released.
Half the matrics received distinctions across six subjects – including maths and physical science.
Two pupils, Cameron Rencken and Gianluca Pauselli, were on the IEB’s Commendable List for being in the top 5% of all IEB candidates in five subjects. The school achieved a 100% pass rate, with a 98.1 percent Bachelor’s Degree Pass (university exemption). The school continued to do well in maths and science, with 49.4% of boys who wrote maths attaining distinctions (compared with the national average of 27% across all IEB schools) and 47.5% in physical science (compared with 19% in IEB schools).
Eight of the country’s top 50 physical science achievers were from Kearsney.
This is the sixth consecutive year the college has achieved about double the IEB average in these subjects.
In engineering graphics and design (EGD), 64% of boys achieved distinctions, 47% in accounting, 64% in drama and 49% in music. In English, 93% of boys achieved more than 60% and two placed in the top 1% of all candidates in the country.
“This extraordinary set of results in maths and physical science is remarkable, and reflects the hard work, dedication and discipline from boys and staff, with support from parents, throughout the year,” said Kearsney headmaster Elwyn van den Aardweg.
The school’s 105 matrics achieved 240 distinctions between them. Seven boys each received seven distinctions, and nine boys each achieved six distinctions.
