R10 000 gift for White House shelter
A SHELTER known as the White House, situated in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, has received a donation of R10 000 after last weekend’s article about it in The Independent on Saturday (“When small things make the unbearable better”).
It provides a haven for 70 helpless people, most of whom are mentally challenged.
The home relies solely on donations from members of the public.
The latest comes from the nearby Rob Roy Lifestyle Retirement Village and Roy Alderdice, one of the developers behind the retirement project, and will cover a third of the centre’s needs to extend its buildings and accommodate 50 more people.
“It’s fantastic,” said volunteer worker Adele Walters. “Now we need just the next R20000.”
