HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MA’AM

-

Members of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery stage a 41 Gun Royal Salute, in Hyde Park, Central London, for Queen Elizabeth II’s 91st birthday yesterday.

The world’s oldest and longest-reigning monarch was born on April 21, 1926 when Calvin Coolidge was US president and Joseph Stalin had just taken control in the Soviet Union, and became queen in 1952.

Polls show she remains popular and royal aides say there is little prospect of her abdicating. The queen has an official birthday in June, known as the Trooping the Colour.
