Supercar serenade

- DUNCAN GUY

A STRING of supercars will be on display tomorrow outside Durban beachfront’s Pavilion Hotel before taking off for the annual Cars in the Park show at Ashburton, outside Pietermaritzburg.

Supercars are “high-performance, exotic cars worth more than R1m”, explained Desen Govender, general manager of IBV International Vaults, the uMhlanga company behind the founding of the more than 300-strong supercar club that will parade at Ashburton for the second year running.

Between 50 and 60 are expected to be on show from 8am before leaving on their breakfast run at 9.30am.

They include Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and McLarens.

Sales and marketing manager, Tshque Harcharan, added: “Everything (in the cars) is hand-made and handbuilt. What also makes a supercar is its high performance, big engine, loud noise and it being a beautiful-looking car.”

The club holds regular rallies and breakfast runs. Members raise money for charity and entertain disadvantaged children, said Govender.
