Young DJ battle at uShaka

- STAFF REPORTER

USHAKA Marine World will host its first DJ battle this winter holiday, giving up-andcoming young DJs a chance to stake their names in the entertainment industry.

Some of the country’s hottest DJs will be judging, including DJ Happy Gal, DJ Vumar and DJ Clown Dallas, and music industry legend Vusi Leeuw will be on the judging panel for the final on September 9.

While the preliminary competition has closed, with more than 100 hopeful DJs registered, the competition kicks off on July 8 and will take place on July 15 and 22, with the semi-final on July 29.

Judging criteria include each contestant’s hosting abilities, mixing performance, music choices, crowd reaction and, very importantly, technical ability, as well as support given by fans on uShaka’s social media pages after the semi-final.

In addition to standing a chance to win working contracts, the top DJs will have their video clip performances posted on uShaka Marine World’s Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram after the semifinal round.

These finalists will then have the opportunity to garner likes and shares from their supporters from August 1 to 31.

Those who make it through the rounds, including the newly introduced semi-final round, will perform at the finals on Saturday, September 9, from 2pm to 8pm.

uShaka Marine World marketing executive Mpume Mthembu said: “We are thrilled to be hosting uShaka Marine World’s first DJ Battle. We have always been proud of our commitment to providing opportunities for all types of local talent, having initiated and successfully run Search for the Stars and the Zulu Dance Championships for a number of years. Moreover, we are happy to have well-known names in the music industry giving up their time for the judging process.

“This first time event will now provide an opportunity for a different type of talent, one we’re very excited to host.”

Tickets for the public to enter the final event will be available for just R50 a person through Computicket or uShaka ticketing from July 7.
