THOUSANDS of red-beret wearing Economic Freedom Fighters supporters are expected to converge at the Curries Fountain stadium today for the party’s fourth-year celebrations.

Yesterday, the EFF’s Godrich Gardee and spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi were at the stadium to monitor the preparations, while some supporters marched around the Durban Station area, carrying red flags through the streets.

“We will show the best of the best tomorrow,” promised Gardee.

They are well prepared for the event, he said. They had recruited new members during their week-long stay in Durban.

Gardee reiterated that this will be a big celebration and that the EFF will visit other places in South Africa as part of their birthday celebrations.

Ndlozi said they will be “rolling out a lot of artistic performances”.

The EFF’s commander In chief, Julius Malema, who visited King Goodwill Zwelithini on his birthday this week, presented him with four pregnant cows and a bull.

Gardee said they had heard the people during their visits to townships such as Clermont and Inanda this week.

“We have visited the people and listened to their grief… they want water, electricity, roads and houses and they have asked us to prepare for this if the EFF comes to power,” he said.

Meanwhile, more than 20 KwaZulu-Natal journalists walked out of an ANC eThekwini regional press conference yesterday. The journalists were upset that they had waited for more than an hour for the ruling party’s leadership to arrive and stormed out just after 12pm. The briefing was expected to start at 11am. Journalists received invites late on Thursday night about an “urgent briefing” to deal with organisational issues.

According to the Guptaowned publication The New Age, the ANC revealed members it had poached from the EFF from four different wards in the Durban metro.
