BIG THING TO GET YOU OFF THE COUCH TODAY

-

THIS month we pay tribute to women in the country. And, as part of the celebrations, The Playhouse Company has an exciting line-up of productions that boast a strong and powerful cast as part of the 21st SA Women’s Art festival. One of the stellar productions on the list is Suddenly the Storm, a three-time award winner at the Naledi Theatre Awards 2017 that plays today at 2pm and 7.30pm. If you didn’t have plans today, now you do.

Suddenly the Storm premièred at the Market Theatre last year, launched to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising of 1976. The play is set in the far East Rand, in the home of an ageing ex-cop and his much younger wife. A storm approaches… Namhla Gumede, born on June 16, 1976 arrives, seeking answers to questions that have remained buried for 40 long years. What begins as a smouldering dark comedy turns suddenly into a rollercoaster ride of startling revelations, of rage and recrimination, before the storm finally breaks.

The cast includes Paul Slabolepszy, Charmaine Weir-Smith (Isidingo, Binnelanders, Generations) and Renate Stuurman (Isidingo, Scandal!), and is directed by Bobby Heaney. Suddenly the Storm will be staged today at The Playhouse Company, in The Loft Theatre, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available via Computicket or Shoprite Checkers at R80 each.

There is an age restriction of 18 for strong language.
