– US President Donald Trump defends his initial statement that “many sides” were to blame for the right-wing protests in Charlottes­ville, Virginia, on Saturday.

A dismissive and procedural­ly unfair approach by the public protector… will tarnish her reputation and damage the legitimacy of the office. She would do well to reflect more deeply on her conduct of this investigat­ion.

– Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, Judge John Murphy sets aside remedial action recommende­d by Public Protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane to change the Reserve Bank’s mandate from currency stability to economic growth, causing turbulence in the financial markets, and leading to it being challenged in court by the bank.

That did not look to be the case when he pushed the referee… I am disappoint­ed he hasn’t been hit with the heaviest sanction possible – 12 matches. He has got away lightly with a five-match ban for assaulting the match official.

–Tiger Woods in a statement after police released a report saying Woods had THC, the active ingredient for marijuana, painkiller­s Vicodin and Dilaudid, the anxiety and sleep drug Xanax and the anti-insomnia drug Ambien in his system when he was arrested at 2am on May 29. He is expected to plead guilty to reckless driving on October 25.
