All Durban’s Christmas markets

FROM baubles to biltong, crafty gifts to crackers, Durban’s Christmas fairs have it all. The Independen­t on Saturday brings you a quick list of some of the festive markets around town.

The Kloof & Highway SPCA Christmas Fair will be held on December 2 with all of the 11 second-hand stores open from 8am to 1pm, including the famous Christmas store with some great bargains. There will also be face painting and a jumping castle with Father Christmas arriving at 11am to give out presents (purchased by parents at the sale that morning) to the children. Marilyn’s Tea Garden will be open from 8am-1pm serving delicious breakfasts, cakes, tea and coffee. The Moonlight Market will be held at the Kloof & Highway SPCA with the second-hand charity stores open from 5-8pm. Food and drinks will be on sale.

A mini “Christmas Through the Home” will be held from December 7 to 9 in Pinetown. Organiser Wynanda Kelbrick said although the 27th annual “Christmas Through The Home Fair” was held in October, because of the popularity of the event, a mini-fair will take place for three days in December with many beautiful Christmas decoration­s and gifts on sale. I Heart Market: The popular city market will be held regularly in the lead up to the festive season, with market dates on December 2, 9, and 16, from 9am-2pm at the Moses Mabhida Stadium lawns. Ceramics, artisanal goods, fashion, jewellery, food and handmade goods will be available.

A Twilight Christmas Market will take place at Watercrest Mall, Waterfall, on Friday, December 1, from 6-9pm. Crafts, gifts, food and live music. For more informatio­n e-mail watercrest­market@gmail.com Christmas Through The Church will be held on November 25 at the Glenwood Presbyteri­an Church Hall, Evans Road, Glenwood, between 9am and 2pm. Spade Design Centre in Durban North will hold a Christmas Market on November 25, from 8am to 5pm. There will be food on sale, coffee, gin, plenty of plants and lots of other goods on sale. Father Christmas is also expected to make a stop at 2.30pm. Proceeds go to Feeding the Furballs. Contact 082 880 1327.

Christmas Under The Stars, hosted by special needs school, West Park School in Malvern, will take place on December 1 from 5-10pm. The annual event will feature carols by candleligh­t, fleamarket­s and food stalls. Entrance is free. Contact 031 463 1550. Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market Christmas Extravagan­za is being held throughout December in the lead-up to Christmas. The markets will be held on December 2, 9, 15, 16, 17 and 23. Check their Facebook page for timings. A special market called Carols and Kilts will be held on November 25 from 3-5pm, after the Saturday morning market. This is a fundraiser for the 1 Med Pipe Band and Friends. There will be a charge to enter.

The Festive Market, described as the largest indoor Christmas market in the Upper Highway, will take place at Curro Hillcrest from December 14 to 19 from 9am to 7pm. Christmas market on December 1 at St Henry's Marist College, on 201 Mazisi Kunene Road, will have fun for the whole family. Kiddies' activities will also be available and funds raised will go towards the school’s sports tour. A Festive Moonlight market will be hosted by the Golden Hours Family market team on December 8 from 6-10pm. There will be a bonfire, live music and stallholde­rs selling festive items. A special supper menu will be available. On November 18, a Carols by Starlight evening will be held from 6-10pm, again with traders and food stalls available.
