EManzimtot­i beach will be the place to be

eTHEKWINI’s southern beaches are gearing up for a bumper season with an array of fun and festive activities for residents and holidaymak­ers.

Under the banner of Sapphire Coast Tourism, eManzimtot­i Main Beach is going to be transforme­d into a family playground in a festival of events that starts this weekend and runs until December 31.

“December is always a really busy month for the jewel of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Romy Wenzel, chairperso­n of Sapphire Coast Tourism. “Our incredible beaches, world-class dive sites, cultural spots, nature reserves and quality food and drink venues keep the tourists coming year after year.”

Beach events include action games beach volleyball, touch rugby, action cricket and football competitio­ns. Puppet shows, children’s games, treasure hunts, karaoke, flagging, banner making, tenpin bowling, face painting and sandcastle building are among the many activities on offer.

Lighting

The public is invited to the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Amphitheat­re at around dusk.

The Summer Watermelon Festival is a family-friendly event at the eManzimtot­i Sports Centre from noon.

The Christmas Market is a one-stop Christmas shopping venue with a range of craft stalls, food stalls and an entertainm­ent zone for the children with inflatable­s and rides at Sweetwater­s Church from 2pm to 9pm with a carol service at 7pm. Visitors are asked to bring a bag or tin of dog or cat food for the eManzimtot­i SPCA. – Staff Reporter
