Foundation helps KZN kids

THIS week, Princess Charlene of Monaco shared that warm Christmas feeling with the world when she posted a photo on Instagram of her cute royal tots, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, getting into the Christmas spirit.

The twins, who turned three on December 10, look quite adorable, with Princess Gabriella in a cherry red velvet outfit with matching bow and heir apparent Prince Jacques looking quite the manabout-town in bush olive trousers matched with a white shirt.

The Monaco twins celebrated their birthday in style with two parties – one with friends and a second with Princess Charlene’s family at the royal retreat, just outside of Monaco.

Prince Albert said the party with friends was held at the Oceanographic Museum in Monte Carlo with an Arctic Polar setting which included “mechanised polar bears that move their hands and arms”.

The prince also confirmed that his son, who even at such a young age has shown an interest in cars and trucks, received his favourite “Hot Wheels” car as his birthday present to add to his collection, while Princess Gabriella opened her gift of a Barbie doll and Barbie Dream Horse.

The celebrations come in the same week that the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation released its figures for the year, including the Ballitobased office which funds and supports water safety and learn-to-swim projects.

In KZN, the foundation reached more than 30 000 children this year, with just over 28 000 learning watersmart skills, more than 1200 children learning how to swim, and nearly 600 youngsters benefiting from their sport and education programme,

Princess Charlene said: “We are dedicated to saving lives. In the ‘Learn to Swim’ and ‘Water Safety’ programmes, my foundation teaches school-age children swimming and water-safety skills and trains bystanders in rescue and resuscitation.

“Sport has the power to inspire young people and transform lives. This is central to our sport and education programme.

“Teaching children essential life-saving skills and the values of discipline, teamwork and respect for oneself and others will enable them to lead safe and fulfilling lives,” she added.

The foundation has developed 149 projects in 33 countries with more than 400000 beneficiaries, most of them children.
