Vilas, Muthusamy guide Dolphins to victory

- NICK TATHAM

THE Dolphins claimed a confidence boosting four wicket win over the Titans at SuperSport Park Centurion thanks to a Dane Vilas hundred and a strong all round performance from Senuran Muthusamy in the Momentum One Day Cup last night.

Vilas ended with 103 vital runs while Muthusamy took 3/59 and finished 64 not out to guide their side home in a rain interrupted game.

The Titans batted first and their openers got their side off to a positive start as Henry Davids and Tony de Zorzi put on 105 for the first wicket.

Davids fell first for 52 before Muthusamy got among the wickets when he had De Zorzi trapped in front for 68.

Heinrich Klaasen and Rivaldo Moonsamy put on 70 runs before the latter was caught by Vaughn van Jaarsveld off Muthusamy for 40.

The Dolphins bowlers kept the run rate in check throughout the rest of the Titans’ innings after Klaasen went to 50.

The Titans were 269/6 in the 49th over when rain intervened and their innings was cut short.

Van Jaarsveld and Dane Vilas came together to put on 35 before the former fell for 19.

Captain Khaya Zondo was the next wicket, caught behind for 12 when Muthusamy joined Vilas.

Vilas then stroked his way to a 103 from 85 balls. His century included 11 fours and one maximum. He and Muthusamy put on 141 for the fifth wicket as the Dolphins whittled down the deficit to just 19 runs.

Rob Fylinck fell with the score on 237 when Keshav Maharaj joined Muthusamy at the crease with the Dolphins needing 16 to win the game with 23 balls left in the chase.

It was then up to Muthusamy and Maharaj to take the Dolphins over the line as the former ended on an impressive 64 not out off 61 balls.
