It is imperative to save water
I HOPE every SA citizen will read this letter.
With Cape Town under serious water restrictions and other provinces not far behind, here are a few observations and suggestions that will hopefully hit home to all South Africans.
These are observations from the gym I train at and I’m sure it happens in most gyms and many households:
1) There are loads of people in the gym I go to, who choose to leave the water running, while soaping down.
They actually step out of the water (instead of simply shutting it off) and take their time cleaning, while the water runs.
The days of standing under a shower for minutes, or filling a bath for one person, are over.
If everyone would soap down while the shower is off, and then put it on just to take the soap off, we would save a lot of water.
As bad as this, there are people who turn the shower head to the wall, leaving the water running, instead of turning it off, while doing the soaping.
I cannot comprehend it, that in today’s South Africa, with the water restrictions and pleading everywhere, there are still people who do not care how much water they waste.
It is common to see children showering in the gym showers for 10 to 15 minutes without parental supervision.
Just aimlessly standing under the water.
Come on, guys, it is time to think of our children’s future and educate our families on water conservation.
It is time to see water as a precious gift that must not be wasted.
It is time to save every drop possible. It is time to see showering as a privilege, and a challenge to save water.
If we all thought of water conservation, just maybe our grandchildren won’t be faced with the unbearable consequences of our selfishness.
