LEGENDARY guitarist Carlos Santana will be in Durban for a one-night only performance on April 13.

Three of our readers stand a chance to each win a set of double tickets to see the iconic guitar maestro in action on stage.

Brought to the city by East Coast Radio and Big Concerts, Santana will be in Cape Town the night before and after Durban, will fly on to Johannesburg.

Known as one of the best guitarists in the world, Santana is no stranger to awards, having clinched 10 American Grammys, as well as three Latin Grammys.

His hit Maria Maria featured on the US Billboard hot 100s top five twice – the second being sampled on DJ Khaled’s

Wild Thoughts featuring Barbadian songstress Rihanna.

Maria Maria, Santana’s 1999 hit, stayed at the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks.

The song, produced by Wyclef Jean – of the Fugees – still gets airplay on various radio stations and originally won best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal at the American Grammy Awards in 2000. Commenting on Wild

Thoughts, Santana was quoted on Billboard.com as saying: “There is a reason that the infectious groove/theme that Wyclef and I created on Maria

Maria still resonates today. “It speaks to the heart. DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson take that vibe and bring it to a new dimension with Wild

Thoughts, but the groove and essence of the song is still intact.”

Before his Durban concert, some facts readers may not know about him include:

He was given a standing ovation at Woodstock Festival in 1969 after performing during a rainstorm.

He was a dishwasher for several years before forming his band in 1966 – this was after completing high school when he was accepted into California State University, but didn’t begin his studies, opting to pursue his music career.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has had his song No One to Depend On included in a music video game

(Guitar Hero5) where he is also featured as a playable character.
