Greed is driving KZN killings, says EFF

- SAMKELO MTSHALI

THE EFF says there is no third force behind the killings that have ravaged KwaZulu-Natal. Instead, the battle for access to tenders is at the heart of the murders.

The EFF delegation, led by spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, MP Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi and KZN MPL Vusumuzi Khoza, delivered a no-holdsbarred presentation to the Moerane Commission of Inquiry into political killings yesterday.

The party said the murders were not political but pure crime and murder motivated by the desire to control state resources

The EFF said this was the result of a lack of leadership within the ANC.

Ndlozi said: “They (the ANC) don’t care about ideologies, they don’t care about the masses.

“They want to eat. It’s a marathon between the factions on who must eat.

“They are killing each other over who must get what in terms of resources. There’s no ideology, nothing.”

He said the 1990s fighting between the ANC and the IFP could be characterised as political because there was contestation over the political strategic direction of the country after the apartheid system fell.

“There were different ideological perspectives as to what must be done to dismantle apartheid and they took up arms in the process.

“There are no politics here. They are killing each other the same way a thug would come to your house and kill you for your cellphone and kill you for your refrigerator or kill you to get access to a specific resource,” Ndlozi said.

Khoza said patronage was at the core of the killings because, as individuals jostled for political power, they needed to use the resources they got as they got closer to the centre of the state to push patronage and buy support.
