Food for a good cause

-

DURBANITES can enjoy a gourmet five-course meal in support of Umduduzi Hospice Care for Children prepared by chefs at the 1 000 Hills Chef School in Botha’s Hill on March 23.

The meal, prepared by “star chefs” of the future, is part of the students’ practical exams.

“Trainee chefs have put a lot of passion and love into the meal,” says event organiser Adrian Garret.

The meal will be paired with five top South African wines.

The evening will include spot prizes and an auction, including for a weekend for two at Zimbali and for a family of four at Phumula Beach, plus weekends at prominent Durban hotels.

This hospice is the Durban partner for the International Children’s Palliative Care Network conference being held at the Elangeni and Maharani Hotel from May 29 to June 2.

The funds raised will be used for scholarships for social workers to attend the conference, which includes health professionals and social workers from 43 countries.

“Conference attendance will increase the knowledge and expertise of health-care workers to provide supportive and compassionate hospice care to children suffering from life-threatening and terminal illnesses and their families,” said Garret.

Tickets cost R600. To book visit www.icpcn.org/1000-hillschef-school-fund-raiser/ or call Garrett on 083 448 6444.
