Get your art valued by the professionals

-

ART specialists Alastair Meredith and Wilhelm van Rensburg from Strauss & Co are coming to KwaZulu-Natal and will be providing art valuations in Durban on Wednesday, March 21.

If you are considering selling your artwork or are interested in getting an evaluation, make an appointment and bring your artwork to Strauss & Co’s team of art specialists, who will provide you with estimates on your pieces. The Valuation Day venue is KZNSA (KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts) at 166 Bulwer Road in Glenwood.

Valuation days such as these frequently uncover rare and forgotten works by some of South Africa’s most significant artists. Important works have been sourced from KwaZulu-Natal, including Walter Battiss’s world record painting, African Figures.

More recently, major works by William Kentridge (Untitled Drawing Towards Responsible Hedonism) and Penny Siopis (Allsorts) have generated huge interest at auction. Strauss & Co experts are recognised for their professionalism

and in-depth knowledge of the art market, which allows them to provide accurate, market-related estimates. They take pride in working closely with sellers and buyers, advising them throughout the sales process.

Dr Alastair Meredith will be hosting a talk at the events. Entitled A Century of South African Art in

10 Pictures, it is a sweeping account of South African art during the twentieth century, using a picture from each decade as a historical and aesthetic touchstone. This informative and entertaining presentation is one not to be missed.

Strauss & Co is the global leader in the South African art market and holds the records for the highest prices achieved for numerous South African artists.

February 2018 saw Strauss & Co host an auction of contemporary art in Cape Town, which affirmed the reputation at auction of senior artists like Robert Hodgins, William Kentridge, Karel Nel and Penny Siopis, but also – and importantly in the context of this new sale – uncovered collector appetite for works by a younger generation of artists, notably painters.
