You’re in luck, folk singer on tour in KZN
CAPE Town singer-songwriter Jonny Luck is touring KwaZulu-Natal this weekend for the launch of his debut album, The Watering Hole Stories.
Called #TheCoastBackEast tour, Luck boasts his own distinctive style of dark folk booze blues, cultivated from years of bar work. His latest album is a collection of tales and truths from the bar counter.
Mixing a blend of whiskey-soaked blues and fresh upbeat folk, this storyteller will have you reminiscing about a misspent youth, new love and those nights spent drinking at your local watering hole. Joining him are Nic Gaud and Matt Vend. Gaud has played in some of South Africa’s most popular bands for well over a decade, including powerhouse rock/reggae/ska outfit 7th Son and the popular electro act Kings Down South.
Vend describes himself as a singer, journalist, songwriter, traveller and nomad, and has been playing in bands since the “tender” age of 14. His projects include the long-running Sibling Rivalry and Durban’s first folk-inspired punk/rock ‘n roll band Car Boot Vendors. He has four albums to his credit.
Today’s performance is at Alliance Française, 22 Sutton Crescent, Morningside, from 4pm to 10pm. Tickets are a suggested donation of R60. Merchandise will be on sale.
The performers will also be at the Soul Sundays sessions at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club, 10 Ranleigh Crescent tomorrow from 1pm to 5pm, and they will be performing at Mantis and Moon Backpackers Lodge, 178 Station Road, Umzumbe, on April 22, 7pm to 10pm – Staff Reporter
