This Nobody is a somebody
HIP HOP, gqom and R&B singer Lorreta is set to release her latest single, Nobody, on Wednesday, promising a rocking hit with local flavour.
Cindy Lorreta Hlubi, 28, (aka Lorreta), originally from Sydenham and now based in Pinetown, is a singer and songwriter.
She has shared the stage with the likes of Nasty C, Babes Wodumo, Zakes Bantwini and Siphokazi. She is also an entrepreneur in textiles.
Speaking to The Independent on Saturday this week, Lorreta said: “Nobody talks about love since I’m sensitive about romance. The song also tells women to not settle for less.”
Lorreta has collaborated with local kwaito newcomer, Sgananda Shezi, known for his performances on the SABC1 soapie Uzalo, and with Nigerian reggae artist B’Clean, who is signed to the renowned Nigerian duo P-Squared.
“I’ve always been fascinated by reggae and dance hall music, hence I felt the need to create a feel-good track of my own with elements I enjoyed. I want to share a piece of my world by showing the masses where I’m from by including the local accents of kwaito and gqom,” said Lorreta.
Adding she was excited about the collaboration with B’Clean and Sgananda, Lorreta said B’Clean’s role on the track was initially intended for Ghana’s dance hall Queen “AK songstress”.
“When my trusted friend and producer, Captain Blu, introduced me to B’Clean’s music, I immediately knew he was the man to bring it all together.
“As for Sgananda, his deep voice is one of a kind and I anticipate all the ladies falling in love,” she said.
With an honours degree in finance and economics, Lorreta leads a hectic life, balancing a local textile manufacturing business while working towards making her mark in the music industry.
“My start just happens to be in music. I would like to encourage, specially women out there, by saying that whatever your dream may be – remember that optimism is the key.
“Many people have ambition and talent, but optimism is the key that rewards your patience,” she said.
