Beauty to behold at plant fair

- STAFF REPORTER

STUNNING orchids and rare plants will be the stars of the show at the Fairway Orchid and Rare Plant Fair, to be held at 118 Fairway Road, Durban North, on Saturday, July 21.

Orchids, staghorns, bromeliads, cycads, succulents, palm trees, bonsais, tillandsias, heliconias, nepenthes and aloes – to name just a few – will be on display and for sale.

The Natal Orchid Society will be displaying beautiful, flowering orchids.

“The interest in orchids continues to grow,” said Melanie van Greunen, organiser of the event. “Our show offers the opportunity to buy new plants as well as to get insights into growing and caring for orchids and other rare plant species.

“There are potting and mounting demonstrations held throughout the day, and with the experts on hand to provide guidance on nurturing, the fair is an ideal opportunity to brush up on your knowledge of these beautiful plants.”

The popular plant demonstrations will be held during the course of the day, with some of the beautiful specimens being given away as raffle prizes. A tea garden will serve coffee, tea and cake, and light lunches.

“This event is for young and old – for all plant enthusiasts to enjoy a relaxed day in a beautiful setting,” said Van Greunen. “The venue is also wheelchair-friendly.”

The fair is open to the public from 9am until 4pm. The entrance fee is R20, with no charge for children under 12.
