EDITOR’S NOTE: Nhlanhla Nene paved the way; others should follow suit

WMC has been fingered in the stinking corruption that has been termed the “great bank heist”.

Wits Professor Patrick Bond used the detested abbreviation in a radio interview about VBS Bank this week. But what he had in mind wasn’t white monopoly capital and before the usual suspects started cheering him he spelled out the main culprit – a Western multi-national corporation that has featured in many scandals that have left South Africa poorer: KPMG.

But finger pointing without action will not help us deal with this national scourge of looters. As a start, the ANC and EFF should take a leaf out of KPMG’s book and “exit” those implicated as the WMC did with Sipho Malaba months ago. I’ll wait for this but will not exactly hold my breath.

Somebody declared the “new dawn” over this week, but another phase needs to come to an end quickly. And that is the era of impunity and no consequences.

Respected former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene paved the way this week by falling on his sword when he realised he had erred.

Those who won’t do it on their own, like the politician who reportedly thought R300000 wasn’t enough as a Christmas present from VBS, should be urgently assisted to ’fess up, pay back the money and exit society.

I haven’t heard anyone from the EFF shout “pay back the money”.

Now all the racist, anti-Indian attacks from you-know-who make a lot of sense.
