Flying with Fido just got easier

GETTING a pet sitter for your furry friend while you travel may be a thing of the past after Turkish Airlines announced that passengers can travel with their pets.

“With the furry members of the family in tow, travel can be a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone,” said Turkish Airlines.

To make the travel experience more pleasurable, the airline said cats, dogs and birds are the only animals permitted to fly with passengers in-cabin.

“Passengers must keep their pets in a carrier or a cage, under the seat in front of them,” said the airline.

It said that there were also in-cabin size restrictions that passengers must consider including the weight of the pet. Its crate or cage should not exceed 8kg and crate sizes should not exceed 23cm in height, 30cm in width and 40cm in length.

“If your pet weighs more than 8kg, or its crate doesn’t meet size requirements, they can still fly in the cargo compartment.”

Guide dogs accompanying vision or hearing-impaired passengers, or those with other medical needs, are welcome in the cabin free of charge, however, the dog must be professionally trained and certified.

Lastly, pet owners should check the rules of the destination country they are going to regarding pets, as well as the information they’ll need to supply.
