KZN’s Dezzi Raceway comes of age

The expanded Port Shepstone track is ready to host some major motor-racing activities

- JESSE ADAMS

UPGRADES to the Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone are complete, and with its expansion to a length of 2.5km the circuit becomes the only full-size track in KwaZuluNatal.

Built from what was once a private airfield and then later two separate drift tracks, Dezzi Raceway is now a fully operational racing facility overlooking the South Coast beach. The new venue comprises a series of highand low-speed corners linked over terrain with varying elevation, and because of its unique layout multiple track configurations are possible. With two sets of open pits, one lock-up pit garage, viewing decks and banks, marshalling towers, hospitality zones, a timing office and a briefing room, Dezzi is ready to host all types of circuit-based motorsport events including drifting, time attack and normal circuit racing.

The Northern Regions Historic Tour will make a once-off trip to the Port Shepstone track for a meeting on April 11, and from July 3 to 5, the country’s top drivers will compete at the Dezzi Invitational Time Attack event in cars such as McLarens, Ferraris and Porsches. National Extreme Festival categories including Polo Cup and Production Cars will also race there on August 29, along with numerous other drifting competitions also scheduled throughout the year.

Dezzi Raceway is currently working on a website, but for now you can reach them on 039-6854100 for track enquiries.
