Thought for the day

- Rod Smith

Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. A READER writes:

“My husband is an executive with a very busy social life.

“For the past 25 years we have gone through all kinds of phases but the most troubling thing for me is that he doesn’t let me know when he is coming home. One night it can be early (like 5pm) and the next night it can be 1am or 3am or not at all.

“He says he is busy and has to sleep at his office. We live very well and I know he loves me.

“I just wish things were a little more predictable and that I could trust him.

“Ten years ago he had an affair that I discovered and he broke it off. He has never talked about it. .................. 031 308 2332 ............ Fikile-Ntsikelelo Moya .............. Bruce Colly ......... Philani Mazibuko ....................... Billy Suter ...... Greg Hutson Simon Osler

“If I mention it he tells me to get over it. If I talk about leaving him, he says I will get nothing. We have not shared a room in 10 years. We have three grown children.”

Love is as love does.

Your husband is not a lawyer and not the one who will decide if you will get nothing in the event of a divorce.

Your future is in your hands and right now you write as if it is in his. Married or divorced, it’s time to create the life you want for you – and I hope you do. ............... 031 308 2004 ................... 080 020 4711 .......................................... 031 308 2022 ................ mercnews@inl.co.za www.facebook.com/themercurysa www.twitter.com/themercurysa
