Past papers the key for IEB matric writers
PRACTISING with past papers seemed the key for Clifton School pupils who completed another round of IEB matric exams at the school yesterday.
Ten pupils sat for information technology paper II, as IEB exams continued around the country this week.
Already pupils have sat for practical exams, including life sciences paper III, which was written last Thursday.
IT paper II, a practical, was split into two sections, working with SQL programming language and object-orientated programming.
Clifton pupils spoken to yesterday said they felt they had got off to a good start.
“There were some challenging parts, but it was mostly workable,” said 17-year-old Kumseelan Naidoo.
“There was a lot of (JavaScript) string manipulation, and when I was stuck at an error (in the programme), it was tough to decipher exactly what points I needed to change.”
“The exam was good,” said Cole Beetge.
“It was similar to trial exams. The nice thing about IT is you get lots of practice throughout the year in class,” the 17-year-old said.
“We finished the whole syllabus in Grade 11, so we’ve just been getting practice throughout the year.”
The paper was also not much of a test for 17-year-old Kristian Haug.
“The string manipulation part was run-of-the-mill. We were very well prepared and we’ve been doing the same thing since last year,” he said, echoing Cole.
All three said practising with past exam papers in the run-up to the exam had allowed them to get a feel of what to expect.
“I did a lot of past papers. I did a lot of SQL, because that is my downfall, and I did one JavaScript paper,” Kristian said.
Today’s IEB exams are computer applications technology paper II, and advanced programme English.
Advanced programme maths is tomorrow.
The IEB exams start in earnest next week and will finish on November 28.
