AN INNOVATIVE mobile app developed by Durban University of Technology graduates has been shortlisted for the 2017 MTN Business App of the Year Awards.

The DUT app was designed by public relations management graduate Terry Mavundla and Information Technology graduates Nhlaka Mzobe, Mfundo Ntombela and Aliziwe Mahono under their app development company Wisolve.

It was chosen as a finalist in the competition out of more than 600 entries.

Mavundla said the app was available on Google Play and Apple App Stores.

It offers features that appeal to students, staff, alumni, prospective students, their parents and members of the community.

It is a finalist in two categories: Best Incubated Solution and the People’s Choice Award, which the public can vote for on the competition’s website.

Wisolve’s chief executive Mavundla said they were honoured by the recognition.

“This nomination is a sign for us to create more apps that will add value to the students and community of DUT.”

DUT spokesperson Alan Khan said the DUT app project was a collaboration between the university, its Invotech business incubator and the creative, talented and innovative DUT students and graduates from Wisolve.

“To now have the DUT app nominated among South Africa’s best, fills me with immense pride and appreciation.”

The MTN Business App of the Year Awards invited local app developers to submit their Apps.

The competition is running for the sixth year and is aimed at celebrating local talent, innovators and geniuses.
