Don’t allow greed to get the better of you

-

SOUTH Africa is facing many challenges – social, economic, large scale corruption, the pandemic, etc.

Our President, Cyril Ramaphosa, is really putting his shoulder to the wheel to steer this country in the right direction, and one can see he is looking tired.

What we require is for everyone to play their part, which will make his job a little easier. We have to work in unison.

The government must be an example and not display antagonistic behaviour in decision making.

This pandemic has affected the lives of many South Africans, as well as those around the globe – the effects are being felt in every facet of our lives. Unemployment is rising and so is poverty, businesses are closing doors, money is fast becoming a scarce resource, and those living in the lower income areas and informal settlements are bearing the brunt of what is happening and what is still to come.

The government has made available large sums of money, over and above that of the Solidarity Fund, to alleviate the plight of millions of our people.

It saddens me to read how unscrupulous suppliers can be by taking advantage of this situation and increasing prices for profit to the detriment of society.

It is more so disgusting to hear how government officials, people in positions of trust, are milking these special purpose Funds for self enrichment – it is pure greed. Here we have the poor and vulnerable crying out for help and they are being deprived by the very same people expected to render that help.

Is this what the ANC is all about?

We, the people, have voted you to power believing that it will be a “better life for all” – life has just got a lot harder for many.

This is a plea to all those in positions of trust – don’t let greed get the better of the values you believe in and your conscience, do the right thing, don’t let the downtrodden shed tears of disbelief, be a shining example to people around you, and let your character be a mirror of your values.

Carry out your fiduciary responsibility diligently.
