Metro FM Awards to bring Durban R72m

-

THE 16th Metro FM Music awards, which take place tomorrow at the Durban ICC, will generate “economic activity of no less than R72 million” for the city.

In a statement from the city, eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede said there would be positive economic spin-offs from the event.

“Our hotels have reported an average of 70-90% room occupancy and we expect this will create and sustain many jobs in the tourism and hospitality sector,” she said.

Gumede added that the city had also hosted a successful artist development workshop in collaboration with Metro FM this week, aimed at transferring skills to emerging artists, with information on the intricacies of the business of music.

The awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1 and people can join or follow the glitz and fun on social media platforms using the hashtags #DurbanSummer and #MMA16. – Mercury Reporter
