SOUTH Africa imported 16 455 tons of white maize from the US in the week to March 17, the SA Grain Information Service said on its website yesterday.

It was the country’s first white maize import in five weeks.

South Africa imported 72 532 tons of yellow maize in the week. It comprised 53 122 tons from Ukraine and 19 410 tons from the US.

The country exported 11 983 tons of white maize to neighbouring countries, and exported 3 845 tons of the yellow variety.

Meanwhile, wheat exports totalled 4 903 tons. – Bloomberg
