Alibaba plans digital hub

CHINESE e-commerce giant Alibaba yesterday announced a plan to set up an e-commerce hub in Malaysia encompassi­ng logistics, cloud-computing and e-financial services. The hub will be part of the collaborat­ion between Alibaba and the Malaysian government in the developmen­t of a digital free-trade zone in Malaysia in line with the Electronic World Trade Platform promoted by Jack Ma, Alibaba’s executive chairman. Among the co-operation announced yesterday, Alibaba’s logistics platform, Cainiao, and its e-commerce website, Lazada, will lead Alibaba’s other subsidiari­es and affiliates in the developmen­t of a regional e-commerce and logistics hub near Kuala Lumpur Internatio­nal Airport. Alibaba Cloud will build a cloudcompu­ting platform to foster small and medium enterprise­s in Malaysia.
