Illegal warfare claim

BEIRUT: The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria is endangering civilians by using white phosphorous, Human Rights Watch said yesterday, after reports that it was used in Raqqa.

White phosphorous burns at high temperatures and can be used in conflict zones, but international law prohibits its use in civilian areas.
